Two years after corruption charges, West Valley police drug unit will return

(KUTV) West Valley City Police is bringing back its drug unit after it was disbanded following accusations of corruption.

Nearly two years ago dozens of drug-related cases were thrown out by the DA's office following investigations into corrupt behavior within the unit. Officers were accused of mishandling property and money from seized cars and using GPS trackers without warrants.

The investigation started after the police-involved shooting of Danielle Willard in 2012. Police Chief Lee Russo says the narcotics unit will be back in place by next Monday.
