Utah man charged with rape of teen skips court hearing, police search underway
(KUTV) Police are looking for Utah man who has been charged, but not convicted, of the forcible rape and sodomy of multiple teen victims.
The man, 43-year-old Destry Mel Stewart, is out on bail from his charges and was supposed to be at a preliminary hearing Monday, but didn't show up, according to police, and now is considered wanted.
When a judge gave him the option for bail, his family paid and he was released.
Deputies found his truck in Millard County in a remote area near Crystal Peak according to Beaver County Sheriff Cameron Noel. A helicopter searched for him Wednesday, but he was not located. Police said the man's family is also looking for him.
"He is a dangerous person and needs to get caught," Noel said.
Both the Beaver County and Millard County sheriff's offices are actively trying to locate Stewart.
Stewart is considered armed and dangerous. Police request that anyone who sees Stewart to phone 435-438-2862 or 911 immediately.
