(KUTV) - Police are hoping a video of some vandals in action will help them find the suspects.

The vandalism happened Friday night around 1:30 a.m.

"He's shooting out that window right there," resident Tom Wharton said after one of his vehicles was hit by a pellet gun.

You can see in the footage as a white SUV come screeching down his drive

You can hear the popping of a pellet or BB gun as it strikes his neighbor two cars and then his.

"You don't know what you're getting shot with at this point. You don't know if it's a 22. Now that I hear this I can tell it's a pellet gun but if your adrenaline is going and you hear glass break. Most people are going to duck or defend themselves," said Wharton.

Layton police say another car in a nearby neighborhood had its door kicked in.

They believe the incidents are related

"It is very frustrating as it's likely or often teenagers or young adults out enjoying themselves at other peoples expense," Wharton said.

It's going to cost Wharton at least $600 to fix his window.

Police estimate the total damage is worth $1,700.

"My hope is they get caught and do some jail time. I'm not talking about just a slap on the wrist," Wharton said. Tom's grandkids were sleeping upstairs at the time- he's just glad no one was hurt

"Thank God they didn't go for building windows. Because if that thing was strong enough to go through that thick window on that cargo door, lodge through the headrest in my car, it easily could have shot through a window," Wharton said.
