Wrong-way driver causes crash on I-15 in Orem
(KUTV) -- An Orem man is in the hospital after authorities say he crashed while driving the wrong-way on I-15.
UHP troopers say 21-year-old Dayton Smith was driving his Subaru Forester southbound in the northbound travel lanes of I-15 late Friday night.
Authorities say He was weaving through oncoming traffic near 400 North in Orem, while going 70 miles per hour, when he hit a Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Troopers say the impact caused the truck to spin and strike a concrete barrier.
The truck driver was not seriously hurt.
Emergency Crews rushed Smith to the hospital in critical condition. They expect him to survive.
Troopers say they found open containers of alcohol in Smith's vehicle and believe he was driving drunk at the time of the crash.
Charges against him are pending.
