Grunwald defense asks for change of venue
(KUTV) Attorneys for Meagan Grunwald, 17, who is accused in the death of Utah County Sheriff Sgt. Cory Wride, wants her case to be tried somewhere else.
Grunwald is accused of going on a shooting spree through two counties with her boyfriend Jose Angel Garcia-Jauregui, 27.
In January Garcia-Jauregui allegedly opened fire on officers during a 50-mile chase across Utah that ended with the suspect being shot by police and arrested. Garcia-Jauregui later died from his injuries.
Defense attorneys for Grunwald say she won't get a fair trial in Utah County because
media coverage has created a risk of bias. In a court hearing held on Monday, prosecutors asked a judge for a little more time to respond to that request.
A date for Grunwald's trial won't be set until the change of venue request is solved.
