Suspect on the loose after Taylorsville standoff
(KUTV) A suspect in a domestic dispute is still on the loose today after he escaped from a standoff in Taylorsville.

Around 3:30 Saturday afternoon, 32-year-old Gustavo Samaniego  apparently threatened his step-daughter with a gun during a dispute at the home of his ex-wife in Magna.  The suspect then fled the scene.

Police tracked Samaniego to a residence at 3825 Ridgecrest Drive in Taylorsville, where an officer saw him enter the house.

SWAT was called in and evacuated surrounding homes.  During the standoff, family members were able to exit the home safely, including a 1-year-old child.

After hours of trying to communicate with the suspect, SWAT entered the home around 2:00 A.M. Sunday, only to find that Samaniego wasn't there.

Police believe that he was able to escape while they were setting up containment around the house.

Samaniego is facing charges of domestic assault and possession of a firearm by a restricted person and is considered armed and dangerous.

If you have any information on Samaniego's whereabouts, you are asked to contact Unified Police at 801-743-7000.
