BYU Spring Football Gets Chippy
(KUTV) PROVO - First day of pads at BYU Spring Football and there was no shortage emotion, as the Cougars head into the weekend.
“As a team, I feel like it was great.” BYU quarterback Riley Nelson said Friday.
"For the first day, the defense dominated and then the offense kind of came back. [We] had a lot of completions, a lot easy plays the second day.”
“These last two days have been back and forth—ebb and flow. So that’s what you’re looking for. So I’m really pleased.”
Despite a some patches of ice remaining on the practice the field, the Cougars went full speed in pads Friday.
“We love the intensity, everybody just wants to get everybody else, so it’s fun, but we just got to make sure we keep it clean,” BYU receiver Cody Hoffman said.
Some members of the Cougar basketball team watched form the sidelines. But what impressed BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall was the effort his team gave.
“It sounded really good,” Mendenhall said of Friday's practice. “And it’s hard to keep guys on the sidelines, because they want to go in. Guys with slings are trying to go in and hit people, and then there was some efficiency.”
