Interview: RSL's Chris Schuler
By David James
(KUTV) RSL defender Chris Schuler joined David James Thursday night on KMYU Talkin’ Sports to look back on the season’s first two games and look ahead to the home opener Saturday at 4pm against the Colorado Rapids. RSL shutout San Jose 2-0 in the opener before losing 1-0 at DC United. Schuler says the team defended better in the loss, than they did in the win, allowing fewer chances and doing a better job of keeping D.C. United out of dangerous areas. Schuler says with Jamison Olave playing in New York and Chris Wingert and Nat Borchers recovering from off-season surgery, the back four has a new look but he has a lot more confidence in the group’s ability to play together after seeing them in these first two games.
Quizzed about his teammates he says Ned Grabavoy is the team’s best jokester with a very dry wit. Alvaro Saborio has replaced Will Johnson as the most serious guy on the team. Schuler says Saborio is “all business.” Schuler thinks Nat Borchers is his mentor, from playing tips, to diet advice Nat has taught him how to be a pro.
The home opener is expected to sellout Saturday, but if you can’t go there will be expanded highlights and post-game interviews on KUTV Talkin Sports at 10:35.
