RSL Putting Team Back Together After Losing 5 Players
(KUTV) Real Salt Lake hosts the Seattle Sounders Saturday night at 7pm in a rematch from the 2012 MLS playoffs. RSL is putting their team back together after losing five players to three different national teams and World Cup qualifying matches. Kyle Beckerman, Tony Beltran and Nick Rimando were with the USA Men’s National Team as they edged Costa Rica 1-0 in a Colorado blizzard and then tied Mexico 0-0 in Mexico City. It was only the second time the USA had ever earned a point in World Cup qualifying in the legendary 100,000 seat Estadio Azteca.
Beckerman laughed when reminded he is undefeated in the massive stadium that has hosted two World Cup Finals. The RSL captain was part of the USA team that won a friendly there 1-0 last year. The USA is 1-23-2 all-time internationally in Mexico and 0-13-2 in World Cup Qualifying matches. In 2013 the USA now has four points in three matches, two of them on the road. They will play three more qualifiers in June , one of them in Sandy on June 18th.
The players and Coach Jason Kreis now focus on MLS play where RSL sits 6th place in the west while Seattle is 9th and dead last in the west. RSL has managed to score just three goals in four matches and all three goals belong to Alvaro Saborio. Kreis says the defense is naturally ahead of the offense because they spend more time working on the defense during their Arizona training camp. You can watch the full story here.
