RSL absorbs second-worst loss in Franchise History
(KUTV) The two big dogs in the Western Conference went toe-to-toe Saturday night and San Jose emerged as the far superior squad, shutting out RSL 5-0.

The game was sloppy for RSL and Kyle Beckerman's red card in the 58th minute seemed to take all the fight out Jason Kreis' team.

For San Jose, Chris Wondolowski scored a hat trick and the Earthquakes beat RSL for the third time this season. The 5-0 shutout was the second-worst loss in franchise history. Only a 6-0 loss to New York in 2006 was worse.

The game got out of control when Beckerman earned a red card for retaliation on a foul that was never called against teammate Javier Morales.

The two teams pushed and shoved, but it was clear that RSL was losing its cool. Alan Gordon scored in the 63rd minute to make it 2-nil Earthquakes. Then Wondo scored on a cross in the 72nd minute, giving San Jose a 3-0 lead.

Two more San Jose goals in the 79th and 80th minute put the match out of reach ending a miserable night for RSL.
