Real Salt Lake in Dallas
(KUTV) Real Salt Lake has never won in the state of Texas, and the streak lives.
A short-handed RSL team went to Dallas and lost 2-0 without Alvaro Saborio, Kyle Beckerman, Tony Beltran and Nick Rimando, who are all away with national teams for World Cup qualifying.
RSL survived a scoreless first half thanks to Nat Borchers, who cleared a Kenny Cooper off of the goal line. Josh Saunders won a pair of MLS Cups as the L.A. Galaxy starting goalkeeper, but the Galaxy let him go and RSL signed him knowing Nick Rimando would be away with the national team for several matches this summer. Saunders rewarded their faith by making a pair of clutch saves in one on one situations, but in the 71st minute, Fabian Castillo came flying down the left side and blasted a ball over Saunders into the top of the net.
RSL hit the post in the 77th minute, but couldn’t score and in the 81st minute Lovel Palmer’s back pass to Saunders provided an opportunity for Jackson to swoop in, poke the ball away from Saunders and into the net for the game’s final goal. RSL will be back home to host Seattle Saturday.
