Detmer Talks About Andy Reid, Alex Smith And His Signiture Win Over Miami
(KUTV) Ty Detmer talked to BYU Head Coach Bronco Mendenhall and Offensive Coordinator Robert Anae about the vacant quarterback coaching position at BYU but Detmer decided now was
not a good time to get into the college game.
Detmer was at the Salt Palace Convention Center for the 7th Annual Western Hunting & Conservation Expo. He was meeting potential hunters who would like a private, guided hunt on Detmer’s 1,300 acre T14 ranch in Texas.
Detmer says he enjoys coaching high school football but feels he has some knowledge high school players can’t absorb. He has stayed with the high school job because it provides more family time than the college job would.
Ty is not a fan of traveling and knows it is a big part of recruiting which is a crucial portion of every college assistant coach’s job description. He also mentioned that, ironically, one of his best prep players is playing college ball at Miami.
The Hurricanes of course are Detmer’s signature win.
Detmer did say he felt bad for Alex Smith, watching the former Ute get benched in San Francisco despite the fact he was playing well.
Although some people expected Andy Reid to take a year off after getting fired by the Eagles,Detmer wasn’t surprised Reid got right back into coaching by taking the Chiefs job.
He thinks coaches coach and a year off might cause Reid to lose his edge. You can watch Detmer’s entire 10 minute interview here.
