Is Third-Time A Charm For Utes And Whittingham?
(KUTV) USC was picked to finish third in the Pac-12 South by the league's media on Friday behind UCLA and Arizona State. USC coach Lane Kiffin hasn't picked a successor to four-year starter Barkley, but

Marqise Lee returns along with tailback Silas Redd and the usual bumper crop of elite offensive talent.

The Trojans' defense, which was repeatedly shredded last year, will have an entirely new look under defensive coordinator Clancy Pendergast, who replaced Kiffin's father, Monte.

"It's been a great transition," USC linebacker Hayes Pullard said. "Pendergast brings that swagger that's been great for us. They simplified this defense for us guys to go out there and just play fast and play to the best of our ability."

You'll also hear from the talented Southern Cal receiver Marqise Lee, as he talked with our Adam Mikulich about how loud Rice Eccles-Stadium got in last year's historic game with the Utes.

Plus, Utah coach Kyle Whittingham is preparing to guide the Utes through a third-season of Pac-12 play, will the third-time be the charm for the Utes?

The media doesn't think so, they picked Utah 5th in the South, only ahead of Colorado.

Whittingham says a number players began texting him in late December to let  him know how miserable they were for missing out on a bowl game and didn't want a repeat of last year's losing season.

Coach Whittingham also explains how he hired offensive coordinator Dennis Erickson off one phone call.
