Wilson Starts, Utes Fall To 0-3 In Pac-12 Play
(KUTV) The big story heading into the Utah-UCLA game was Kyle Whittingham giving freshman quarterback Travis Wilson the start.
The big story after Utah's 21-14 loss to the Bruins, is now the Utes' 0-3 record in conference play. UCLA jumped out to a 7-0 lead when Bruins' quarterback Brett Hundley ran in a 12-yard touchdown.
Utah's Ryan Lacy recovered a fumble in the end zone that tied the game at 7. But UCLA broke the game wide-open when Shaquelle Evans and Hundley connected on a 64-yard touchdown pass . Coupled with a 3rd quarter touchdown by Bruins running back Jonathon Franklin, and suddenly UCLA led 21-7.
The Utes closed the gap on a 3rd and goal touchdown pass from John Hays to Dres Anderson, but they couldn't get any closer as the Utah slip to 2-4 on the season.
Kyle Whittingham said his team is better then it was last season, even though it started 0-3 in conference play for the second consecutive season.
