Utes Get New Running Back: His Name Is John White
(KUTV) A new and improved John White had 22 carries for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns in Utah's 49-27 shellacking of the Cal Bears Saturday night, which no doubt made the team and Ute Nation happy as the schedule turns into November.
There was something in the air during Utah's blowout victory over Cal. The All-Pac-12 running back helped propel the Utes to a long awaited conference victory and keep the team's bowl chances alive. Now the team is looking for more from No.15.
"John's been doing great, and he's really picked it up, and he's going to be great in the future," said freshman quarterback Travis Wilson.
The player they love to call the "Wolfman" summed up his breakout night pretty easily.
"It's just, you know, driving your legs making sure you get that extra yard. When you're pounding the defense things are going to open up," White said.
Now the Utes have to win four of their next five games to assure their bowl eligible. Kyle Whittingham says he trusts his veteran players to keep pushing every week.
"[This] group of seniors has been around a lot years and done a lot of good things, and they're not about to let things spiral, and that's a credit to them." Next up for Utah is Washington State at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
