Manganello, Mantia flourish at US Speed Skating Championship
KEARNS, Utah (AP) — Mia Manganello won the women's 1,500- and 5,000-meter races at the U.S. Speed Skating Championships on Saturday.
Manganello had personal bests of 1 minute, 56.43 seconds in the 1,500 and 7:09.36 in the 5,000. This comes a day after she matched Catherine Raney Norman's 2005 American record with a time of 4:01.98 in the 3,000.
Joey Mantia posted the fastest time in the world this season with a 1:43.00 in the men's 1,500 and Shani Davis' 1:44.62 was the third-fastest time in the world this season.
Emery Lehman recorded a season-best 13:54.81 while winning the 10,000.
Three-time Olympic medalist J.R. Celski swept the men's short track events Saturday by winning the 1,500 in 2:15.218 and the 500 in 40.848.
Two-time Olympic medalist Katherine Reutter won the women's short track 1,500 in 2:37.811 and Jessica Kooreman won the women's 500 in 45.129.
