A 62-year-old man died after he was beaten in the street by an unidentified 17-year-old male whose sister accused the man of sexually assaulting her, Logan police said in a Facebook post.

Police say the man, a passenger on the bus, identified as Michael Fife, was assaulted by the 17-year-old just after 3 p.m. on April 23, when his 16-year-old sister told him the man had assaulted her.

The 16-year-old called police three hours later and reported the sexual assault, the post states. At that point, Fife had already been taken to the hospital after witnesses saw him lying on the ground, injured, and called the police.

Fife suffered head injuries after falling to the sidewalk during the fight and died on April 27, police stated.

Police reviewed video footage taken on the bus at the time of the reported assault and determined the report was not credible.

"The video showed Mr. Fife walking past the girl, but no sexual assault occurred," the press release states.

Police state the case is still under investigation. Since the people involved are juveniles, their names are not being released.

More information may be released after police consult with the Cache County Attorney's Office, the release states.
