(KUTV) Salt Lake City - We could all use a little extra cash. Sheila J Davis, founder of YES! Women's Network, says you can put some money in your pocket while doing something you love.

Whether you’re saving for a family vacation or you want to buy your first house or you just want to increase your savings, you’re not alone. It’s more important than ever to have a financial plan in place. For some that may include turning their hobbies into cash. This can be easily done with the right resources and can be a lot of fun; no matter if you're wanting just a little extra cash or if you want to turn it into a full-time business. More and more people are becoming entrepreneurs, especially in Utah. Utah is listed in the number one spot on CNBC’s America’s Top States for Business and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has Utah listed #1 for innovation and entrepreneurship and #2 in high-tech performance in 2017. There are a lot of very talented women who could turn their skills and/or hobbies into cash or even into a real business if they chose. It’s not as hard as you think and there are loads of amazing free resources to help when you're ready.

There are three things you can do to get started turning your hobbies into cash today.

  1. Chose a hobby and that you can do consistently. When you think of your hobbies you'll want to really think about what you love spending your time doing. If you love baking and you could spend all day long doing that, then selling cinnamon rolls, muffins, or loaves of bread could be a great cash making opportunity. It's important that you choose something you love and that you can be consistent.
  2. Test your idea. Make some posts on social media and ask what people think. Say something like, "I'm making cinnamon rolls tomorrow, who wants to buy a pan? Would you like to bake them yourself or buy them already baked?" It would help to have a picture of the cinnamon rolls or of a child taking a big bite of one. Then see what people say. Where my sister lives there is a gal who posts and sells out in just a few hours. Remember it won't happen overnight and it may take you doing this a few times but once word gets out that you have a quality service or product you could be turning people away!
  3. Find a trusted resource to help you. YES! Women's Network has become a trusted resource for free or low-cost training and mentoring. We have an amazing community of women who have already started businesses who you'll have access to on our site and in our FB community. Finding and making the right connections will save you loads of time and money. We not only provide a lot of this ourselves but I've brought in some amazing women around the world who have joined us as instructors and mentors as well.
