(KUTV) Salt Lake City - All day today (January 31st, 2018), KUTV is raising money for our annual Souper Bowl of Caring. Your donations could end up going to a mobile food pantry to feed Utah's hungry kids. Brent Severe, Chief Executive Officer for the Granite Education Foundation, and Ginette Bott with the Utah Food Bank, talked with Kari about what mobile food pantries do for Utah's communities.
The Granite Education Foundation was recently recognized as being in the nation's top 15 Education Foundation's - only one in Utah (Caruthers Institute Study). The foundation serves over 70,000 students. 65% of that student population is at or below poverty standards. 3 in 5 students in Granite School District suffer from food insecurities. The Granite Education Foundation is the first education foundation in the state of Utah to address food insecurity head on. The foundation currently has 13 free-standing pantries with three additional to open within next 6 weeks, and have partnered with Utah Food Bank in supporting 33 mobile food pantry stops.
