Every Kid Healthy Week is an annual observance created to celebrate school health and wellness achievements, and recognized on the calendar of National Health Observances. Dustin Jones with the Utah Department of Health explains that this week is to spotlight the great efforts schools are making to improve the health and wellness of students and the link between nutrition, physical activity, and learning.
Anyone can get involved and be a part of the celebration to help support sound nutrition, regular physical activity and health-promoting programs in schools with a school health event.
April 23rd also marks the beginning of Playground Safety Week. 67.1 % of student injuries in Utah elementary schools occur on a playground.
Here are some ideas to help make this week active, healthy, and safe.
- Host a family clean up and playground safety night.
- Refurbish your playground or cafeteria.
- Organize a health and wellness fair.
- Plant a school garden.
- Provide health screenings with the help of a local clinic or health department Have a fun run, walk or a race
