The holidays are coming, which typical means excuses for not exercising will be in abundance! However, exercise during the holiday season doesn't have to be dull or boring, especially if you don't need any equipment, said Jeffrey Beck, exercise specialist with the Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute in Murray.
Beck recommends that you complete the following reindeer inspired jumping jack workout routine three times per week in order to increase aerobic capacity, incinerate calories and get in the holiday spirit!
1) Bent Row Jacks: Place your feet close together and hinge forward from the hips. Put your palms together in front of you, arms bent. Jump in the air and land on the ground with your feet greater than shoulder width apart while simultaneously raising your arms out to your sides until your hands are at ear level. Return to starting position. Do this continuously for 30 seconds. Rest for 30 seconds and repeat 3 times.
2) Isolated Squat Jacks: Place your feet close together, keep your back straight, hinge forward from the hips and squat down a quarter of the way. Put your hands on your upper thighs. Now do a jumping jack motion using only your legs by jumping in the air and landing on the ground with your feet greater than shoulder width apart. Do this continuously for 30 seconds. Rest for 30 seconds and repeat 3 times.
3) Rotational Split Jacks: Stand with feet together, arms at your sides. Jump in the air and land in a semi-lunge position with your right foot forward while simultaneously rotating your arms to your right side. Now quickly jump switch so your left foot is forward and arms are on your left side. Do this continuously for 30 seconds. Rest for 30 seconds and repeat 3 times.
