(KUTV) Kyrstin Garvin's life looks "picture perfect" in many ways.
But Garvin has also struggled with deep depression and suicidal thoughts.
"It just hit me," Garvin described. "Even my closest friends had no idea."
After Garvin gave birth to her first baby, she had a serious case of postpartum depression.
"Getting out of bed was impossible. A lot of times I would lock myself in my bathroom and I would just be crying for hours, and my husband would have to come home from work and be with the kids," Garvin described.
She finally got help through counseling and medication after five years of battling the depression.
Then about six months ago, she decided to start "Inspired by the Positive," a film project where she tells the inspirational stories of people from all walks of life.
"I look for people who show positivity, who show the motivation to keep going through really hard things," she said.
Garvin already ran a video company with her husband, so she had the tools she needed to get started.
"I just wanted to bring something positive and inspirational to put on social media," she said.
So far, she has shot ten stories and has another five in the works. Garvin hopes to put out at least two stories a month.
"It's been a life-changer. It's been incredible," Garvin said of the project. "Basically, I'm surrounding myself with positive people and that can only rub off on me as a good thing."
"Inspired by the Positive" is completely self-driven; Garvin isn't being paid to do the stories.
But the reward far outweighs her time and commitment.
"It inspires me to keep going," she said.
Garvin also hopes to do a video on her own struggles with depression and to send the message that people are not alone.
"You can do it. Life is worth it," she said.
