West Valley City, Utah — (KUTV) — Mickey Hall's home transforms into an Easter workshop during the spring.
She and her small group of volunteers are on a mission to bring Easter to needy kids.
"We are just a bunch of people in the community giving back to kids that probably wouldn't have an Easter," Hall said.
Hall knows what it's like to go without. She was raised by a single mom, and remembers only get a grocery sack to put Easter eggs in.
"We never got a basket. Very rare," she recalled.
So she makes sure these children get an Easter basket they can call their own. It has their name on it, and is filled with special goodies.
"We just give them a water bottle with their name on it, bubbles, a package of chalk," said Hall.
And of course, there are plenty of Easter eggs for the kids to collect.
Hall pays for most of the items out of her own pocket.
"I'm not a nonprofit; I don't have a business license," she said. "It's just me and my friends that put it all together."
Hall's Easter event will give baskets to over 100 kids this year.
"It is so much fun to see their eyes just light up, and that it's actually theirs," she said.
Hall has been doing this Easter egg hunt event for seven years. She also gathers school supplies for kids in need every year, and does a "Sub for Santa" project in December.
"I love kids. And the kids that I help probably wouldn't have Christmas or those memories that they can pass on to their own kids," Hall said.
Hall's daughter also runs the Jun Bug Organization, which raises money to buy grave makers for those who lost their lives to abuse.
At their Easter event this weekend, they will be having a raffle that help raise money for that organization.
Mountain America Credit Union donated $500 to Mickey Hall to make the Easter holiday even more special this year.
This year's event is happening this Saturday, April 13th at Centennial Park in West Valley at 1 p.m.
