(KUTV) He played football for Weber State on a full scholarship, moving on to the NFL.
But when an injury took him off of the field, Utah's Ta'u Pupu'a found music.
"I wanted to be in the music business, I wanted to be an opera singer," said Pupu'a when he sat down with 2News' Shauna Lake. "But how does one become an opera singer?"
Pupu'a met famous opera singer Kiri Te Kanawa, who is half-polynesian, at the Metropolitan Opera.
"She looked up and saw me, and you know in New York you don't see many of us," said Pupu'a. "So she took me under her wings and brought me to Juilliard."
After attending Juliard, Pupu'a is now on tour in China.
