(KUTV) Mark Harlan is coming to the University of Utah from the University of South Florida in Tampa.

USF was in a smaller conference and had a smaller budget to work with.

"This is a bigger stage in ways possible, in what I believe to be the best conference in America--the Pac 12--where a tremendous amount of national champions emerge every year in various different sports," he said. "So I think that therein lies the difference."

Harlan is excited to see how fans rally around the Utes.

"To be around that kind of support, that kind of enthusiasm, I mean how could I not be so blessed to be here," he said.

Harlan says college sports are an "American tradition" and have seen tremendous growth.

"There's no other countries in the world that can talk about those college sports in the way that we do," he said. "There's something about your alma mater and something about the city you live in and cheering for the teams you maybe grew up watching."
