(KUTV) USA Gymnastics has been in the spotlight lately since Larry Nassar, a former Michigan sports doctor, was sentenced to up to 175 years in prison for sexually assaulting Olympic gymnasts and other female athletes.

MyKayla Skinner went to the Rio Olympics with the U.S. gymnastics team--and several members revealed they had been abused by Nassar.

"It's been really sad," Skinner said of the news.

She and the other team members text each other to check on one another and show support.

"Fortunately nothing has happened to me or anything like that," she said. "It's just been kind of heartbreaking at times."

Skinner said she was shocked to hear the news or Nassar's abuse and has just been trying to support her former teammates.

"I don't really try to talk to them much about it. I just kind of give them their space," she said.
