(KUTV) — 2News' Holly Menino spoke with Cydni Tetro, president of the Women Tech Council to promote SheTech Explorer Day.

The day-long tech conference appeals to high school girls in grades 9 through 12. The conference includes hands-on workshops in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

"Our ultimate goal is to expose girls to technology in a fun atmosphere as well as meet STEM role models to learn more about opportunities in those fields," the website states.

According to Tetro, 90% of young girls say they do not know anyone in a STEM field. This is one reason why women are not going into STEM careers, Tetro says.

SheTech takes place on March 1 at the Mountain America Expo Center (formerly known as the South Towne Expo Center). This is located at 9575 S. State Street in Sandy, Utah.
