SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Masks will be required in all Salt Lake County facilities even after the statewide mask mandate ends on Saturday, Mayor Jenny Wilson announced on Tuesday.
That includes places like the Capitol, arts venues, and recreation facilities.
Wilson is also encouraging residents to continue wearing masks anywhere in public after the statewide mandate ends.
The mayor can't implement a county-wide mandate without approval from the Salt Lake County Council. That body is expected to hear a recommendation from the county health director this week, and will move forward from there.
She expressed concerns that the mask mandate is ending when only a portion of Salt Lake County — approximately one-third of residents — have been vaccinated.
One-third of our population is not enough of a threshold for us to be safe," Wilson said.
