SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — UPDATE: Interviews from the red carpet can be found here.
UPDATE: Preliminary thoughts about the first five episodes here.
It’s been two years since we had an in-person Sundance Film Festival, but a little bit of Hollywood is returning to Utah on Monday to celebrate the release of FX’s seven-part adaptation of Jon Krakauer’s true crime novel “Under the Banner of Heaven.”
FX will be hosting a red-carpet event at the Broadway Centre Cinemas on Monday, April 25, ahead of the series’ debut on April 28 exclusively on Hulu. Talent expected to attend include Andrew Garfield (“Detective Jeb Pyre”), Sam Worthington, (“Ron Lafferty”), Tyner Rushing (“Emma Smith”), Dustin Lance Black (Creator/Executive Producer/Writer/Director) and Anna Culp (Executive Producer).
The red carpet is expected to take place at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed by a private screening at 6:30 p.m. and a panel discussion with the cast and filmmakers.
FX describes “Under the Banner of Heaven” as: Inspired by the true crime bestseller by Jon Krakauer and follows the events that led to the 1984 murder of Brenda Wright Lafferty (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and her baby daughter in a suburb in the Salt Lake Valley, Utah.
KUTV's Ron Bird interviewed Sharon Wright Weeks, Brenda's sister, in early February 2022 when she spoke in favor of Utah eliminating the death penalty. You can read that interview here.
