(KUTV) - West Valley City Police announced the arrest of two teens Thursday afternoon in connection with the shooting death of a 15-year-old boy on Bangerter Highway in January.

Both suspects are 16-year-old males and investigators believe the shooting was gang-related.

Irving Alexia Chuba, 15, died on January 18 at the intersection of 4100 South and Bangerter Highway after a brief chase between two cars ended in gunfire.

Police believe the van Chuba was riding in became the target of another vehicle with a group of teens in it. After attempting to elude the pursuing vehicle, the car Chuba was in had to slow for traffic near 4100 S. Bangerter Highway when the driver of the pursuing vehicle pulled up and fired shots into the car.

Chuba and a small dog in the car were killed.

West Valley Police said they received few tips and little help from anyone in their investigation.

“Investigators have worked diligently since this crime occurred, employing the most sophisticated and thorough investigative methods. It is only through their exhaustive efforts that the two juvenile suspects, in this case, were identified, located and arrested,” a statement provided by West Valley Police said.

The teen suspects were not identified. It was not mentioned if investigators continue to look for other suspects in connection with Chuba’s death.

A gofundme has been set up for funeral funds for Irving Alexia Chuba.
