(KUTV) — UPDATE (May 30, 2019, 2:5) p.m.) -- The two people killed in the plane crash in Wayne County, May 24, have been identified as pilot Christian C. Simonsen, and the passenger was identified as his wife, Lynn Ann Anderson-Simonsen.
The couple is from Morgan Hill, Calif. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.
Two people are dead after a plane crashed in Wayne County on Friday morning, the county sheriff's office said in a press release.
Sheriff's deputies were called to the crash scene at approximately 11:22 a.m. after someone called 911 to report witnessing a plane crash.
The witness told dispatchers they say the aircraft disappear from view and heard and explosion, then saw smoke.
Police arrived on scene at Miner's Mountain Road in the Grover area to find a single-engine aircraft in flames and surrounded by debris.
The two deceased individuals were located at the scene. They were not identified in Friday afternoon's press release.
A medical examiner's investigator also responded to the scene and will make a report.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by federal authorities.
