(KUTV) – A West Valley City Police officer is dead after a vehicle hit him during a pursuit in Taylorsville Sunday morning.

The chase started around 3:30 a.m., and around the same time, the officer involved got out of his near 4100 South and 2200 West, authorities said. He was stuck by the fleeing car and killed at the scene.

West Valley City Public Information Officer Roxeanne Vainuku said responding officers took three suspects in to custody and had set up containment in the area to look for more possible suspects.

Police stopped searching the blocked off area around 6 a.m.

The pursuit started with a separate incident in the area, Vainuku said. She did not release information about the suspects or what they were wanted for prior to the pursuit.

West Valley City Police Chief Lee Russo was in the process of notifying the officer’s family. Police officials said they expected to release more information at a press conference Sunday morning.

Roads in a several block radius from the scene are closed and will likely remain restricted for several hours.

West Valley City Police will hold a press conference about the incident Sunday at 10 a.m. Jeremy Harris will stream it live on Facebook. Click here to watch.
