48-year-old mother on life support after drive-by shooting in Taylorsville
(KUTV) — Jawnie Wey of Taylorsville was shot in the back of the head as she sat on her living room couch, in the company of her two daughters, on Tuesday night.
Someone drove by and sprayed her house with bullets. Police don't think she was the intended target. Her family doesn't think so, either.
Right now, police have no suspects — only a vague description of a suspect vehicle.
A witness saw a black sedan driving past the house at the time of the shooting.
"Jawnie didn't deserve this," said her sister, Joey.
Jawnie, according to her sister and niece, was the favorite in the family. Everyone loved her.
What's even more painful for Wey's family is that her two daughters were sitting near her when she was shot and fell forward.
Her 13 year-old was sitting right next to her and held a towel to her head after the shooting, her family said.
Her adult daughter, who is pregnant, was nearby. They were together, planning her baby shower.
"She was so excited for this grandbaby, she was so excited about this baby shower," her sister said through tears.
Now they worry about who will raise the 13-year-old — Jawnie was her only parent.
She was also the sole support of her own mother, who lived with her in the same house.
The family has set up a fundraiser for Jawnie's younger daughter and mother. Those who wish to contribute can visit the family's GoFundMe page.
