(KUTV) — A 9-year-old girl was attacked by two dogs in Eagle Mountain Wednesday, the Utah County Sheriff's Office reported.
The girl was riding her bike in the Meadow Ranch area of Eagle Mountain at approximately 4:30 p.m. when the large dogs attacked her.
The Mastiff and Wire Terrier knocked the girl to the ground and continued to attack her until a man, who lives nearby, chased the dogs away. The girl sustained injuries to her upper body and arms, including numerous bites and scratches.
"She was wearing a coat or jacket, which likely helped in reducing the severity of her injuries," a press release stated.
The dogs stayed in the area while two men helped the girl.
USCO says the dogs chased after another child who was also riding a bike in the same area. The first man chased the dogs away again. The second child wasn't injured.
When deputies arrived, the dogs were seized and taken to the North Utah Valley Animal Shelter.
The owners of the dogs have both been cited for allowing an attack by dogs and for allowing their dogs to run at large, USCO reported.
