9-year-old boy shot in accidental shooting now out of hospital
UPDATE 12/26/2017 3:10 p.m. The boy who was shot is now out of the hospital.
CENTERVILLE, Utah (KUTV) - A little boy in Centerville will likely spend Christmas in the hospital after a gun went off in his hands Saturday evening.
The 9-year-old was at a relative’s home, hanging out with cousins in the basement. They happened to find a loaded, unsecured gun. An older cousin tried to take it away from the child but it discharged, striking him in the shoulder.
The little boy was rushed to Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake and is expected to be ok.
Police are reiterating the importance of gun safety as unintentional shootings do tend to spike over the holidays. Authorities say guns should be locked away in the home and to be extra vigilant if you have visitors in your home over the festive season.
