Alta reports snowiest winter on record with more to come

Alta Ski Area has officially reported their snowiest winter on record.

As of Saturday, Alta recorded receiving 749 inches of snow for the season — the snowiest it has been in the 43 years that they have been recording it.

According to to Alta officials, the most snow this season fell in January, when they got 186 inches. The second snowiest month has been December, which saw 163 inches. So far in March, Alta has received 140 inches.

They outlined the following years as getting the most snow on record:

  1. 2022–23: 749"
  2. 1981–82: 748"
  3. 2010–11: 724"
  4. 1983–84: 708.5"
  5. 2007–08: 702"
  6. 2004–05: 697.5"
  7. 2008–09: 696.5"
  8. 1982–83: 687"
  9. 1992–93: 681.5"
  10. 1997–98: 659.5"

Since the first snow on October 22, 2022, Alta has reported seeing an average of 4.9 inches of snow per day this season.

Park City Mountain on Wednesday reported that they also surpassed their record snowfall levels for the season, receiving 500 inches of snow.

Other ski resorts and mountain communities have reported being buried in snow this winter — on Monday, Brighton Resort celebrated receiving a historic 700 inches.
