One person confirmed dead after SLC shooting
(KUTV) — One person is dead after a shooting took place at 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
The incident took place in the area of 350 South and 200 East.
Authorities responded to the incident, creating a perimeter in front of the Heber M. Wells building.
According to Sgt. Shearer of the Salt Lake City Police Department, the incident began as an argument between a security guard and a trespasser.
A struggle ensued, and escalated into a shooting.
"It is possible that the suspect tried to take the gun of the security guard, at which time shots were fired," Shearer said. He clarified, however, that the investigation has yet to confirm that.
"Many security guards do carry guns," said Shearer, with the Salt Lake City Police Department, "it depends on the company they work for and the certifications they have."
Traffic was blocked from State Street to 200 East going east- and westbound.
