Bears Ears reduction goes into effect
(KUTV) — President Trump's decision to reduce the size of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante went into effect Friday at 6:00 a.m. The decision was reached alongside Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, and now Utah lawmakers hope to take it a step further.
The national monument of Bears Ears was reduced from 1.4 million acres to 200,000 acres.
Two Utah lawmakers are sponsoring a bill that will exclude the state of Utah from the Antiquities Act, which allows the president to create a national monument from federal land.
States that are already exempted from this are Wyoming and Alaska.
