(KUTV) -- Best Friends Animal Society wants people to save the life of a homeless pet this holiday season.

Best Friends Animal Society is encouraging families who are thinking of getting a new furry friend this holiday season to adopt a homeless pet from their local animal shelters or rescue groups, rather than buying from a breeder, pet store or online retailer.

The Holiday Mini Super Adoption is a cooperative effort in which shelters and rescue groups come together in a free, fun and festival-like atmosphere to find homes for homeless pets. The participating shelters and rescue groups are members of Best Friend's NKUT Coalition.

People can find their new pet in the indoor spaces on Rio Grande between 100 South and 50 South at The Gateway from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

If you miss this event, Best Friends uses the same spot for adoption events on the second Saturday of every month.
