An elementary school in Sandy was on lockdown. Just after 5 p.m., the lockdown was lifted.
The lockdown at Brookwood Elementary, which is located at 8640 Snowbird Drive, was a precaution because of the shooting that happened in a residential neighborhood near the school.
This is what Sandy Police initially had to say about the shooting:
At 4:25 p.m., the Canyons School District confirmed the elementary school was on a lockdown while police investigated a shooting happening away from campus.
Anyone who may have taken a child into their home or business should bring them back to the school, so they can be reunited with their family.
"CSD is asking that anyone who is providing shelter to Brookwood students to please bring them to the school to be reunited with their families," the Canyons School District tweeted.
"Because the incident occurred after school had let out for the afternoon, many students found shelter in neighboring homes and businesses," the district tweeted.
