Update: Kearns shooting victim in extremely critical condition, shooter still at large
(KUTV) — A 23-year-old man is in extremely critical condition after he was shot in Kearns, Utah, and the shooter is still at large.
The victim was Dezon Stanfill according to Sgt. Melody Gray with Unified PD.
Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray said the male victim is in extremely critical condition after the shooting at 5870 S. Copper City Drive.
Police said Stanfill told them he picked up the shooter in a white vehicle and drove down the street when something happened inside the car the prompted the shooting. Police were not sure what precipitated the shooting but said it does not appear to be gang related and said the shooter fled the area on foot.
The shooter is described as a white, bald man with blue eyes. Gray said police assumed the man was still armed and poses a danger to the public. She said there were no witnesses to the shooting and asked anyone that might have more information to call police.
Stanfill, who was shot in the abdomen, spoke to police before he was taken away for medical care, according to Gray.
A K9 units were scouring the block looking for the suspect. Investigative teams are checking the vehicle where the shooting happened, looking at it from the outside to the inside. Gray said police would be in the area for several hours and asked that anyone who sees anything they consider suspicious to call police.
