Brief exchange with Orem officer results in social media search, find and birthday gift
(KUTV) -- You never know what can happen with a wave and a smile. For one 7-year old girl, the simple acts are getting her a belated birthday gift from an Orem City Police officer.
In a string of Twitter posts, Orem Police Department detailed a chance meeting between Officer Cook and a young girl named Ellie.
Cook stopped to talk to the Ellie to thank her for being so friendly after she waved at him. He discovered it was the little girl's birthday.
He gave her a stuffed animal and also learned from her parents that an attempt at Build-A-Bear to build her own plush buddy didn't work out from the long lines of the chain store's "Pay Your Age" promotion on Thursday.
Officer Cook failed to get the parent's information but the entire police department wanted to find the little girl to make her birthday special.
The department took to social media and solicited the public's help with finding the little girl named Ellie.
Less than 24 hours later, the retweets led the police department to Ellie - she was found.
Now Officer Cook and Ellie are planning a time to meet at Build-A-Bear so they can design a toy friend together - and it's being paid for by the Orem Police Department.
