Build-A-Bear closes lines across U.S. due to massive turn outs for Pay Your Age Day
(KUTV) -- Build-A-Bear has closed lines in its U.S. stores due to a massive turn outs for "Pay Your Age Day."
Local authorities and store managers had crowd and safety concerns during the event, according to the Build-A-Bear website. At University Place in Orem, people were asked to wait outside because the number of people there exceeded fire code restrictions.
Frustrated parents waited in lines for over 6 hours. The locations at University Mall in Orem, Fashion Place Mall in Murray, Station Park in Farmington all closed their lines.
"They had to have known there was going to be this kind of crowd," Allynne Young said.
Build-A-Bear Workshop offered $15 vouchers to the kids turned away, but some parents say that is not what they came for.
“The vouchers were only for $15 off and only on certain bears and not honoring the same deal that people have come and stood in line for hours for,” Young said.
Pay Your Age Day is an event where customers can purchase a stuffed animal at a price that's based on how old they are.
Build-A-Bear addressed customers in tweet saying they understand guests are disappointed and they will reach out as soon as possible.
