BYU, U of U, USU and Weber State basketball to play in new Beehive Classic

(KUTV) Larry H. Miller is doing their part to make sure in-state rivalries thrive. They announced the formation of a new men’s college basketball showcase Thursday morning.

The Zions Bank Beehive Classic will be hosted at Vivint Smart Home Arena and feature BYU, the University of Utah, Utah State University and Weber State University. Athletic directors from all the schools will participate in the formal announcement of it Thursday afternoon, a release said.

The Beehive Classic will be an annual doubleheader, each December from 2017-19. The four schools will rotate opponents in round-robin format over the three years.

In 2017 the games will be on Dec. 9, on Dec. 8 in 2018 and on Dec. 14 in 2019. Specific times will be announced in the future.

Each school will be allotted 4,500 tickets and those tickets will allow access to both games. Student pricing will be available.

“The four universities and their fans will be among the first to experience all the new upgrades to the arena,” said Jim Olson, Vivint Smart Home Arena president. “We are excited to create a Utah-flavored event of this caliber. No doubt, it will be a special evening for everyone involved when the Zions Bank Beehive Classic debuts in 2017.”
