Cache County homeowner surprises burglar later found at Wal-Mart

(KUTV) An suspected burglar was surprised by a homeowner in Cache County and sent running before later being arrested.

Police say James Dover Merritt broke into the garage of a home in North Park. He was caught when the homeowner heard noises coming from the garage. The two men engaged in a fight but the homeowner was armed. He fired a shot into the ground to scare Merritt away according to police.

Police said as the man was fleeing, he damaged his car when he ran into a mailbox, making his vehicle easier to locate.

He was found at a Wal-Mart parking lot in North Logan.

Police believe Merritt is connected to several other Burglaries in Cache County.
