Cache county teen shot in the head out of coma, remains critical
(KUTV) Deserae Turner, the Cache County teen who was shot in the head and left in a canal, is out of a medically induced coma, but remains in critical condition, according to a statement from the Turner family.
In a statement the family expresses gratitude to those who have shown support and kindness following the traumatic events.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to family, friends, community members and all of those we may not have met. The kindness our family has been shown is beyond measure. We are in awe of the number of people who have reached out to us, thought of us and included our family in their prayers. We are especially grateful for the medical staff who have gone above and beyond to care tirelessly for Deserae. While Deserae remains in critical condition she is no longer in a medically induced coma. Our daughter is a fighter with a strong will to live. We are grateful for everyday and know that there is a very long road ahead for her and our family.
A family-friend found Deserae in a canal, Friday Feb. 17. Deserae had been shot in the head and was flown to a Salt Lake hospital for treatment, according to police.
Police have two juveniles in custody, accused of attempted aggravated murder, aggravated robbery and obstruction of justice.
Charging documents say the boys lured her to the area where she was found with a plan to kill and rob her. The boys took $55, a phone and iPod from Deserae.
