KUTV — The Centers for Disease Control is recommending new mothers, who have coronavirus, be separated from their newborns.
The new guidelines for hospitals state the mothers and babies could be separated for up to two weeks, in order to keep newborns from getting coronavirus.
The recommendations were made by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecology and the CDC.
Mothers should be involved in the decision, according to the CDC. Healthcare worker should discuss the health risks and benefits of such separation as well.
It is unknown whether newborns with COVID-19 are at increased risk for severe complications.
