(KUTV) — A church youth group leader sexually abused a teen girl in his minivan, according to an arrest warrant.

Charges were filed against Jefferson Cuong Quoc Ngo for:

  • sodomy upon a child, a first-degree felony
  • sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony
  • sexual battery, class A misdemeanor

The abuse allegedly happened when the girl was 13-years-old and was part of a youth group at a Utah church Ngo attended approximately seven years ago. He was the leader of the youth group and documents say he "often" took the victim to a nearby park in his minivan in West Valley City, Utah.

Ngo is accused of taking the girl to the back seat of the vehicle and sexually abusing her. The now 20-year-old woman told police she felt uncomfortable and scared as this happened but she believed this was what happened in a relationship and she believed Ngo was her boyfriend at the time. He was 18.

Bail for Ngo was set at $100,000. Court documents said the warrant was necessary to protect the safety of the community or an individual.
