(KUTV) - South Salt Lake Police released the name of the man who was shot and killed Sunday after holding his grandmother and her husband hostage in their own home.

According to police, 44-year-old Abe Martinez held his 89-year-old grandma and her 71-year-old husband hostage for hours in their home Sunday. Ultimately, UPD’s SWAT team shot and killed Martinez after he killed the woman and critically injured the man.

The male victim is recovering at a hospital in serious but stable condition.

2News looked into Martinez’s history. He was serving a 15 year prison sentence for charges related to drug dealing and had recently been released to a halfway house. He was reported missing Saturday.

West Valley City Police are investigating the officer involved critical incident.
