Cops find gun on the passenger seat of pursuit suspect’s car

(UPDATE) July 20 11:52 a.m. - Andres Garcia has been identified as the suspect who police were pursing.

Garcia has been charged with possession of controlled substance, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on denied, possession of DNGR weap by restricted and failure to respond to officers signal to stop.

Police fond a 12 gauge shotgun in his passenger seat, a green leafy substance appearing to be marijuana and paraphernalia to include a grinder and pipe both with residue, according to the suspect's affidavit of probable cause.

(KUTV) - Salt Lake City Police arrested a fleeing suspect and recovered a gun inside his car Wednesday afternoon.

Officers stopped the car after a chase that lasted several minutes near 1000 W. North Temple Street around 5 p.m.

A picture from the scene shows what appears to be a gun on the center console of the car.

According to police, an officer ran the car’s plates and saw it was connected to a felony aggravated arson warrant out of West Valley City.

The officer viewed a picture of the suspect and indicated it appeared to be the same person who was driving the car.

The officer stopped the vehicle, but the driver sped away.

Due to the nature of the warrant, officers pursued the car. The suspect stopped the car and surrendered to officers several minutes later.

Police said they are trying to positively identify the suspect as the man with the warrant.

Investigators drafted a search warrant and were waiting for approval to search the car.

Police did not immediately identify the suspect.
